Musings

So here I am. In the place I call home. Everything’s different and everything’s the same. Except it isn’t.
Everyone is busy. Chasing the ever evasive coin, or whatever else. But no one’s making time to see me. To reconnect. To communicate. Calls and texts go unanswered for days,if ever.
It feels so sad.
I can’t help but wonder if I died today, what would they think? Feel?
Regret? Anger? Relief? How long will it last?
In the meantime I realise that this may just be for a season but a lesson all the same for me to learn.
When old friends take different paths, hopefully to reconnect down the road.
I hope to see you there.
And the way life goes, when I get busy is when they’ll wanna get in touch.
Sometimes we have to loose in order to gain.

Another Gym visit

My friend and i made a date to meet at the gym this morning.

So late Friday night, i set my alarm for 5:15am so as to make it to the gym by 6 am.

I felt tired but i got up and dressed up and off i go.

Sometimes things happen that make you wonder..many things.

As i walk to they gym, i see that it is dark..why aren’t the lights on? I refuse to believe my eyes..it is dark! The horror!! Many thoughts run through my mind. Why did i have to get up before 6 on a Saturday? Saturday for heavens sake!! Argh! But i went to the reception desk of the sports club and ask what time it will be open and i was told 8am. That is unacceptable. As i am walking out, ย the receptionist asks me if i will be back later but i say no. I will look for another gym that is open at 6:30am. The kind gentleman then asked me if i am a member. I told him a little white lie and say i do. The one other time counts right? Right. He offered to open the gym just for me.

*play hymnal music here* ย Other things happen to reassure you of hope ๐Ÿ™‚

I thanked him but i asked to wait for my friend. So i called my pal and told him that the gym is closed. His response “What?! No way. Be serious.”

“I am serious. Just come and we see what we can do.”

When he got there i told him that it can be opened for us. The joy on his face must have mirrored mine.

Anyway so we go in and get started.

I got on the treadmill for 5 minutes, because i have to complete a challenge later today….more on that later..

I took some dumbbells and did some exercises that i got from Mr Shut Up and Train..travel burpee press, renegade rows, plank kickbacks, chest fly/heel taps, squats and lunges. I also did some kicks and punches that i still remember from kickboxing class. (I really should go for a session when i am in the city.)

It was good. I was careful not to push myself too hard because later today i have to run at least 3 km so as to complete a challenge on Strava.

Changes

Life has been interesting these past few weeks.
Getting back into the groove of exercise has been a learning process. Taking things slow and easy and learning.
I am also moving from one town to another and that is challenging in itself but a challenge I welcome all the same.
I don’t want to leave but I trust that better and bigger things are on the way ๐Ÿ™‚
So here’s to new beginnings and to continuing working on our goals whatever they may be.

Gym Visit

A friend told me about the gym he attends and i kept mentioning how i would visit and check it out. My visit didn’t look like it was going to happen as things just kept proping up and i would forget. So he told me the daily rate and made sure that i would attend it with him. So on Wednesday this week i did.

Got up early and went into town.

I found him pounding the treadmill. I was impressed.

The gym instructor got me on the pedal machine and then the treadmill for 15 minutes each. I hated the pedal machine, ugh!

While i was on the treadmill, there was a lady who walked in and started doing squats. She couldn’t get to knee level and i remember laughing inside but applauding her effort all the same. I remember thinking “Everyone has to start somewhere.” I looked to my right at the middle aged lady who was on the treadmill next to me. She was running the hell out of that machine at a speed of 8.8km/hr and i was struggling at 5.5km/hr. Humble pie.

Do not look at someone and dismiss their effort because you can do it better than them, because the next person, or that same person. can do something better than you.ย 

All the while through the corner of my eye, i can see my friend, K, doing lunges with a weight balancing on his shoulders…don’t know what they are called. I knew he was fit but watching him was something else. It was motivation to keep moving on the treadmill machine ๐Ÿ˜‰

The gym instructor was keen to have me do squats and lunges and was pleasantly surprised that i could do them with minimum complaints. He was really keen for me to go for another session.

You know what? I think i will. And hopefully i will go with my friend K.

I found that i sweated more than when i work out at home.

It helps to be with a groups as it keeps you motivated and engaged as opposed to when you are at home and you can easy stop for extended breaks.The gym doesn’t let you do that.

Having a friend is an added bonus.
